AKA: Three-Quarter House
A type of recovery residence that is often considered a step down from a halfway house, with more independence but still some structure.
In the context of addiction treatment:
Occupants usually work or go to school and manage more of their own schedule, but must remain substance-free and follow house rules.
What to know:
-
Rules may be lighter: fewer curfews, more autonomy—but still random testing and zero-tolerance for use.
-
Often used after someone has spent time in more structured sober living or halfway housing.
-
Good bridge between highly structured environments and fully independent living.
Example:
After 6 months in highly structured sober living, a client moves into a 3/4 house where they work full-time and still attend a weekly house meeting.
