Alcohol Use Disorder

AKA: AUD

A medical diagnosis for unhealthy patterns of alcohol use that cause distress or problems at home, work, school, or in relationships.

In the context of addiction treatment:
AUD can range from mild to severe. Treatment options may include counseling, medication, and support groups like AA or SMART Recovery.

What to know:

  • You don’t have to “hit rock bottom” to meet criteria for AUD or to get help.

  • Cutting down and seeking help early can prevent serious health and life consequences.
