In the context of addiction treatment:
Often paired with screening—especially for people not ready or needing full treatment yet.

What to know:

  • Uses motivational interviewing style—curious, non-judgmental, collaborative.

  • Can be delivered by doctors, nurses, counselors, or social workers.

Example:
A college health counselor spends 15 minutes helping a student look at pros/cons of their weekend binge drinking and set safer limits.
