AKA: C-SSRS
A structured set of questions that helps assess suicide risk.
In the context of addiction treatment:
Often used at intake, after relapses, or when someone reports intense distress.
What to know:
-
It asks about thoughts, plans, behaviors, and intent—not just “Are you suicidal?”
-
Answering “yes” doesn’t mean you’re automatically hospitalized; it guides appropriate safety steps.
Example:
After a breakup, a client tells their therapist they’re hopeless; the therapist uses C-SSRS to evaluate risk and create a safety plan.
