Peer Support / Peer Recovery Coach

Support given by someone who has their own lived experience of addiction and recovery.

In the context of addiction treatment:
Peers may work in treatment centers, recovery community organizations, or peer-run groups.

What to know:

  • Peers are not a replacement for medical or clinical care but can add powerful real-life guidance and hope.

  • Many people feel safer opening up to someone who “has been there.”
