Solution-Focused Brief Therapy

AKA: SFBT

Therapy that focuses on solutions and future goals rather than deeply analyzing problems.

In the context of addiction treatment:
Helps people identify what’s already working and build on it quickly.

What to know:

  • Short term and highly goal-oriented.

  • Uses questions like “What will be different when things are better?”

Example:
A client describes a “miracle day” where they wake up without craving; therapy works backward to identify steps toward that scenario.
